Hellrider + Five-Alarm Fire
Asked by HexproofHarry 11 years ago
So the whole idea behind my deck Krenko's Comandos is to make a large army with Hellrider and Five-Alarm Fire out and attack with said army to trigger Hellrider's ability. But does Hellrider's one damage for each attacking creature put a blaze counter on Five-Alarm Fire for each one damage done? For example I have 11 creatures including Hellrider . I attack with 11 creatures causing Hellrider's ability to trigger dealing 11 damage to defending player. Now since 11 damage was done, does that mean 11 blaze counters are put on Five-Alarm Fire ? I believe this to be true but I'd like a second opinion.
That is not even remotely true.
Look here: "Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage..."
Hellrider's ability is just plain old regular damage; not combat damage, which is done solely through blocking/attacking.

Notice that Five-Alarm Fire only triggers from combat damage being dealt, not just any damage. Combat damage is the damage a creature assigns and deals based on its power in the combat damage step of combat. Hellrider 's special ability isn't combat damage, and won't trigger the Fire.

Just for future reference though, because of the way Hellrider is worded, it would create 11 seperate instances of "deal 1 damage". For effects that care about such things, it would deal 1 damage 11 distinct times.

No. If you'll take another look, Five-Alarm Fire only works on combat damage. Hellrider's ability is direct damage.
