Heartless Summoning and "Death" of creatures?

Asked by ZServ 13 years ago

I'm building a deck that works around flame-thrower. Because of this, use Heartless Summoning to insta-kill a lot of my creatures. If I cast something like Goblin Arsonist , does it "die" and deal 2 damage from Summoning and 1 from Arsonist, or does it just never count as hitting the field?

It will hit the field, but once it enters the stack checks for enter the battlefield triggers and global effects. If Heartless Summoning is on the field the stack will check for what creatures are 0 toughness. Creatures with 0 toughness will be sent to the graveyard, this also counts as dying and will trigger morbid abilities and "dies" abilities.

So Rage Thrower will get its ability and then goblin arsonist will as well, and if you're turn-player, you can stack the damage like 2 then 1 or 1 then 2 because both triggers occur simultaneously.
