Glacial Chasm

How does Glacial Chasm s Cumulative upkeep work with its "prevent all damage that would be dealt to you" clause. I don't get it, can that life still be payed?

Damage is not synonymous with loss of life. Damage can cause loss of life, but not all life lost is due to damage. In the case of Glacial Chasm , you pay 2 life. This doesn't cause damage, and it isn't prevented by the other effect of Glacial Chasm .
