FRF: Citadel Siege - Who chooses first?
Asked by darleen 9 years ago
Citadel Siege has two triggered abilities. A player must choose one as the card comes into play. Either ability is triggered at the beginning of the combat step.
The scenario is: I have Citadel Siege in play and have chosen Khans, and my opponent also has Citadel Siege, but has chosen Dragons. At the beginning of my combat step, both cards' abilities are triggered at the same time. However, which player chooses a target creature first?
The order makes a difference because if I choose first, and add two counters to a target creature (making it more powerful), obviously my opponent would like to tap that creature. However, if my opponent chooses first, then obviously I wouldn't put the two counters on the creature he or she targets to tap.

If multiple triggers would go on the stack at the same time and are controlled by different player then they go on in Active player, Non active player order(APNAP). So in this case your trigger would go on first then your opponents would go on first. Remember the stack resolves first in first out so your opponent would tap a creature then you would put counters on the creature. It is also important to note that both of you have to declare the targets for the abilities when they go on the stack. So you would have to choose the triggers target first then your opponent gets to choose their target.
TL;DR- You have to declare your targets before your opponent declares theirs so it isn't as powerful.

When multiple players control triggered abilities waiting to be put onto the stack, the active player puts his or her abilities onto the stack first. Then, the next active player does the same.
So at the beginning of combat on your turn, you'll put your ability onto the stack and declare its target. Then, your opponent will put his or her ability onto the stack and declare its target. It doesn't work out favorably for you.
