Exiling a blocking creature

Asked by gizmak77 13 years ago

My opponent attacks with a strong creature, I declare a weak creature (one that would die in this fight) as a blocker. Then I play Restoration AngelMTG Card: Restoration Angel and chose to exile my blocking creature. Does it save it? And do I take the damage from the attacking creature?

Because the attacking creature was declared blocked, it remains blocked even though the creature that was blocking it leaves combat. You do not take damage from that attack.

Because your blocking creature also left combat, it will neither deal nor receive combat damage this turn.

In short, your creature is safe and you take no damage.

Yes and no.

The phases go something like this:

Beginning of combat

declare attackers

declare blockers

damage step

end of combat

Declaring a creature blocked will stop its damage getting through, unless that creature has trample. Flickering a blocking creature after it is declared as a blocker but before damage is dealt would save it.

If a creature blocking another creature with trample is removed from combat before damage, the trampler will deal all of its damage to defending player/PW.

The creature will be blocked and your creature will be saved. No one takes damage and no creatures die.
