Eldrazi Spawn and Coat of Arms

Asked by Prism 13 years ago

HelloI was wondering how Eldrazi Spawns work with Coat of Arms .Are they both "Eldrazi" and "Spawn" types? Or is that one type?

If I have two is it:

1 = +2/2, #2 = +2/2

Or

1 = +1/1, #2 = +1/1

So if I have three do they all get +4/4?Four do they all get +6/6?

How does it work? Thanks

You're doing it a little wrong.

If you have three spawns in play, they all get +2/+2

This is because, as Coat of Arms says, any individual creature gets +1/+1 for each other creature on the battlefield that shares one or more types with it.

So yeah, Eldrazi Spawns share 2 creature types, but that doesn't let you count them twice, sorry.

Here are the gatherer rulings just to be safe:

10/1/2009 Sharing multiple creature types doesn't give an additional bonus. Coat of Arms counts creatures, not creature types.

mazil is correct.

Coat of Arms asks do these creatures share a creature type? If the answer is yes, then they get +1/+1 for each other creature. Coat of Arms does not care how many creature types are shared.

Furthermore, to answer your first question, Eldrazi and Spawn are both creature types. Thus, Broodwarden and an Eldrazi Spawn token share a creature type, and Elder Spawn and an Eldrazi Spawn token share a creature type (fun fact: Elder Spawn is the only Spawn-type creature card).

Oh wow! My friends and I were thinking Coat of Arms was way better than it actually is. Thank you for this clarification!
