Dryad Arbor and Summoning Sickness

Asked by harrydemon117 11 years ago

I'm confused on something here... Dryad Arbor is a creature and has summoning sickness but is still a land. Can it still be tapped for mana the turn it's played or since it has SS it cannot?

Dryad Arbor isn't a spell, it's affected by summoning sickness, and it has "Tap: Add Green to your mana pool." ~The Gatherer

From gatherer: Dryad Arbor isn't a spell, it's affected by summoning sickness, and it has "Tap: Add Green to your mana pool."

Because the adding of mana is an activated ability that requires tapping it cannot be activated the turn you play Dryad Arbor unless you give it haste. Same goes for man lands, if you play them and activate them the turn they're played they can no longer tap for mana that turn without haste.

nitpick: it is because the activated ability has the tap symbol, not because it involves the act of tapping (for example, Azami, lady of scrolls can have her ability activated even with summoning sickness, but Llanowar elves can't).
