dredge and drawing

Ok.
Putrid Imp on the field.3-4 dredge-able cards in the graveyard.i play a draw (3-4) card.
Can I dredge a card in the graveyard for each card I would draw? and secondly, could I draw/dredge, then discard the dredge card, and draw the next card?
You can dredge for each time you would draw, because if you read the dredge card they say "if you would draw a card you may instead" so it triggers for each draw as a state based action. However, you cannot activate putrid imp between drawing multiple cards from a single spell. for example, if you played a divination, it says draw two cards. This is a single action so it would go on the stack at the same time. This means that you can't put another spell on the stack in between it.
So in short, yes you can dredge for every draw, but no you can't discard between drawing in a spell that specifically says draw 2 or more cards

Both KorApprentice and burkek are right about dredging, and burkek was also right about not being able to activate Putrid Imp 's ability in the middle of a spell resolving.

Yes, because Putrid Imp 's ability is not a replacement effect. Only in the dredge situation because dredge is a replacement effect, which can trigger during the resolution of a spell.

To be clear, it doesn't "trigger", because it's not a triggered ability. It replaces the draw event. For words that mean specific things in the game (I like to call them "vocabulary words"), it's important to be careful about how they're used to avoid causing confusion.

To be clear, it still uses the stack and passes priority around. Sorry for the misuse of the word 'trigger'.

Wait, which ability are you talking about? No one gets a chance to respond to your choice to dredge instead of draw, because no player gets priority again until after the whole effect is done resolving.

Rhadamanthus is are correct, I misjudged the Dredge ability. The fact that it is a replacement effect is the reason why it does not use the stack, my apologies.

Yes, you may dredge a card in your graveyard for each card you would draw. Any ability that would have you draw multiple cards actually has you draw 1 card multiple times. So, "Draw 2 cards." is essentially, "Draw a card. Draw a card." From the MTG Comprehensive Rulebook:
614.11a If an effect replaces a draw within a sequence of card draws, all actions required by the replacement are completed, if possible, before resuming the sequence.
Basically, since dredge replaces the card draw, you perform that action, then resume the sequence (continue drawing cards). And on each of those card draws you may choose to use the dredge ability of a creature in your graveyard.
