Does the value of X determine the mana value?
Asked by Bigsplashy 1 year ago
Lets say you have a way to give all cards cascade. You cast a spell with mana value x, with x equal to 5. Would that make the mana value of that card 5, allowing your cascade to trigger, or would x be considered 0?

While on the stack the casting cost of the card will factor in the price paid of X, so will be 5.
Fortunately, Cascade is an on-cast ability, so it’ll register the mana cost as 5, and let you cascade with that number.
Hypothetically, if cascade was an etb trigger instead of an on-cast one, it wouldn’t work as nicely here, and only see X as 0.
TLDR: cascade will work as intended with mana value of 5.
