Does Rendmaw still make birds if a card is countered?

If I have Rendmaw, Creaking Nest on the battlefield and then cast a Copper Myr. Do I still create birds if the myr gets countered before it's able to resolve?

Do countered spells still count as "played cards"?

Yes, the countered spell was still "played" and each player gets a Bird. To "play" a card is to either play it as a land or cast it as a spell. For a spell, Rendmaw's ability triggers when you cast the spell and it doesn't matter whether or not the spell actually resolves.
