does Platinum Emperion effect my choice to block, or not block with creatures?
Asked by Wolf_Lightning 10 years ago
What I'm trying to ask is how can Platinum Emperion be destroyed if say for example, he is my only creature on the field, and I'm attacked. If I just choose not to block my opponent can do nothing? Is this right?

So only a planeswalker can be targeted without a card that specifically deals my creatures damage? The only thing that could take out Platinum Emperion is a destroy creature, or destroy artifact spell besides enchantments to negate his powers, correct?

Wait, why bring up planeswalkers?
Planeswalkers can't be targeted by "target creature" effects. They can only be targeted by "target planeswalker" and "target permanent" (or variations of "target permanent") effects. A player may redirect noncombat damage he or she would deal to an opponent to a planeswalker that player controls instead, but that's the only replacement effect involved.

Thank you for the information. I've been at this for a while. Unfortunately my teacher was not the best. He never got into commander games, or ever used a planeswalker. See I was under the impression the planeswalker could be targeted by things that target opponent. The planeswalker is like me in the game right? So let me ask this. When a planeswalker takes damage does he lose one loyalty counter for every 1 damage taken?

My apologies Greatsword. I missed your card link request. It is good to know, and I will read over the entire instructions as soon as I have a chance. Right now I'm working on getting my decks on the site. Unfortunately my time is limited, which is why my replies are slow. So my apologies. Please bare with me. I am not new to Magic, but still learning, and just joined this site yesterday. Thank you for your patience. And please call me Wolf. I hate that this site chose my user name before telling me I would have to pay to change it.

Separate questions should be asked in separate threads.
"Planeswalkers are players" is an old, but unfortunately inaccurate, explanation for how planeswalkers work. It's best if you completely forget this explanation.
Planeswalkers are permanents, not players. Every 1 damage dealt to a planeswalker causes that planeswalker to lose one loyalty counter. Planeswalkers with zero loyalty counters on them are put into their owner's graveyard as a state-based action, regardless of whether they're indestructible or not.
Also, the site doesn't choose your username (unless that feature was added). Use the contact form at the bottom of the page to request a name change.

Please link your cards, there's a formatting guide at the bottom.
Platinum Emperion
You're correct. Nothing in Platinum Emperion's text changes how you may or may not block, so if your opponent attacks with creatures, you may choose not to block them. You will still take damage; the damage just won't result in loss of life for you.
