Does Path of Ancestry Trigger off of casting your Commander?

I'm fairly sure that Path of Ancestry triggers off of your commander, but Gatherer hasn't created a page for this yet, so I couldn't check.

For everyone's reference, the important part is ": Add to your mana pool one mana of any color in your commander's color identity. When that mana is spent to cast a creature spell that shares a creature type with your commander, scry 1."
Yes, you will get to scry 1 if you spend this mana on your commander.
For any quality, a card is considered to share that quality with itself, unless for some reason it doesn't actually have that quality (example: a colorless creature can't "share a color" with anything, not even itself).
I guess it's possible to get a weird combination of effects that will change the type of the spell you're casting to something completely different from its original characteristics, but I can't think of an example off the top of my head.
