Does Harmonic Prodigy trigger on Subira's 2nd ability?

Asked by ZoomZoom 2 years ago

Currently brewing a Subira, Tulzidi Caravanner EDH deck, and am considering Harmonic Prodigy. After activating Subira's 2nd ability ('Until end of turn, whenever a creature you control with power 2 or less deals combat damage to a player, draw a card.'), and I attack (and deal damage) with the appropriate creatures, will Harmonic Prodigy trigger on Subira's 2nd ability?

You will get double draw triggers in this scenario.

The additional trigger ability on Harmonic Prodigy is technically not a triggered ability, it is a replacement effect. This distinction keeps two Prodigies from ending the game in a draw because of an endless loop and matters for some other cards that care specifically about triggered abilities.

Subira, Tulzidi Caravanner's last ability creates what is known as a delayed trigger ability. The source of delayed triggered abilities that are created from the resolution of abilities is the same as the ability that created them. This means that the source of the card draw trigger will be Subira and Harmonic Prodigy will see it as an ability of a shaman you control triggering and will trigger it a second time.

603.7e If an activated or triggered ability creates a delayed triggered ability, the source of that delayed triggered ability is the same as the source of that other ability. The controller of that delayed triggered ability is the player who controlled that other ability as it resolved.
