Does Deus of Calamity with double strike trigger twice?

So I play Deus of Calamity often and I equip him with Runes of the Deus from time to time. If he is unblocked, does that mean that he deals 8 first strike damage and 8 regular damage causing his ability to trigger twice?

Deus of Calamity will trigger every time it deals 6 or more damage to an opponent. This means that with Double Strike it'll trigger twice - once for each time it deals damage.
Unlike to what your question suggests, though, it will also trigger if it's blocked and the Trample damage not assigned to blocking creatures is a total of 6 or more (so for example, if it's blocked by a 2/2). Also, if it's unblocked and attacked a Planeswalker, it won't trigger either.
