Does cloudfin raptor proc off of a creature gaining a counter,.

OR does cloud fin raptor only proc when you play a card that has a greater power than cloudfin currently has?

Evolve only triggers when a creature with greater power or toughness enters the battlefield. Creatures already in play getting bigger have no affect on evolve.

Please link cards in the question.
Cloudfin Raptor

If you read the reminder text for evolve, it states that it triggers when a creature with greater power or toughness than the creature with evolve enters the battlefield under your control. Nothing enters the battlefield when you put a counter on a creature, so evolve doesn't trigger.

I have a question: where did "proc" come from as a word people use to talk about Magic? I don't think I ever saw anyone use it until just a couple months ago. Is it an MtGO thing, or something that came here from another forum community?

Proc is usually an MMORPG term. It must have leaked in from there.

The first time I saw the word "proc" used in this context was playing EverQuest (MMO from the late 90's). I kind of assumed it was short for "process" as in "My Short Sword of the Ykesha proc[essed its randomly triggered ability]'d and I got the kill shot on Lady Vox."

I used to play WoW a while ago and I believe this term was used to refer to random triggers usually from abilities of your equipment.

EQ predates WoW, but games like Runescape and Ultima Online predate EQ. D&D predates everything so it's possible the term originated there, though my D&D experiences have been after the advent of MMOs so I couldn't say. Also possible it came about from a MUD, though those were before my time so I also couldn't make a claim with any confidence.

proc stands for

Programmed Random OCurrance

it's originally a computer programming term and doesn't really appy to magic. The term has become so mainstream however that people tend to use it for any kind of reaction or trigger
