Does Brave the Elements protect me from Drown in Sorrow?

I have a bunch on 1/1 white soldier tokens on the battlefield. My opponent casts Drown in Sorrow . In response, I cast Brave the Elements to protect white creature from black until EOT.

Are all of my token safe because they are white or do they die because be didn't directly target them?

They die. Protection prevents DEBT (Damage, Equip/Enchanting, Blocking, and Targeting). Drown in Sorrow doesn't do any of those. You wasted your Brave the Elements .
