Do the Outlast effects continue after the creature has been destroyed?

Asked by Goja 9 years ago

Let's say I have a Tuskguard Captain that gives every creature with a +1/+1 counter Trample. On the card, it doesn't say, "Creatures you control with a +1/+1 counter on it gain Trample until this creature leaves the battlefield."So do they still have trample even after it leaves the battlefield?

No, they wont have trample anymore. A cards effect only applies as long as it is on the battlefield unless otherwise stated.

Only an effect created by the resolution of a spell, a triggered ability (starts with "when/whenever/at"), or an activated ability ("Cost : Effect") can keep applying after the card it came from is gone. An effect from a static ability (anything not triggered or activated) only lasts as long as the card stays on the battlefield.

Compare this to Dragonlord Silumgar. His effect is created by the resolution of his triggered ability ("When Dragonlord Silumgar enters the battlefield..."), so it has to specify a duration ("...for as long as you control Dragonlord Silumgar"), otherwise it would keep going after he leaves the battlefield.
