Do Bestowed Auras Retain Their Subtype?
Asked by gheridarigaaz 11 years ago
I don't know if subtype is lost by changing the cards type.
E.g. if i have a Benthic Giant out on the battlefield enchanted with Raised by Wolves alongside the two tokens, and i bestow Nyxborn Wolf on to it, will the bestowed wolf-enchantment retain it's subtype as a wolf and give the giant an additional +1/+1 thanks to Raised by Wolves ' effect?
So is the end result a 10/8 with hexproof or a 9/7 with hexproof
Raised by Wolves doesn't specify creatures you control.
On the cards, Bestow doesn't say wether a card loses it's subtype, it just says they gain the aura subtype.
Tribal enchantments were a thing (just in case you read this and weren't playing at that point of magic's history).

When you cast a bestow creature it loses the type creature and gains the subtype aura for as long as it is on the stack or enchanting a valid object.
205.3c If a card with multiple card types has one or more subtypes, each subtype is correlated to its appropriate card type.
205.3d An object cant gain a subtype that doesnt correspond to one of that objects types
This means that when it loses its creature type a bestow creature also loses all creature subtypes.

Raised by Wolves wouldn't care whether your wolf was a creature or not, so if they ever made a tribal enchantment - wolf it would certainly count that.
But a bestowed enchantment creature is an aura, not a creature and does not have any additional subtypes. A bestowed Nyxborn Wolf is not in fact a wolf while it is an aura.

card type is being discontinuedTribal is not a permanent typetrible is not a thing any more. When one or more of a permanent's subtypes changes, the new subtype(s) replace any existing subtypes from the appropriate set (creature types, land types, artifact types, enchantment types, spell types, or planeswalker types). It won't affect the subtypes from any other set, and it won't affect the permanent's types
wolf aura

The thing is, when you cast a card for its Bestow cost, it is an Enchantment - Aura. Enchantments can't have creature types unless they're tribal, and it's not a creature, so a bestowed card has no creature types.
