Deathtouch vs firststrike
Asked by Isuhbell 9 years ago
So I had a situation happen in a game and I need help determining who is correct.I declared an attack with Erbos, God of the Dead and my opponent declared a block with an 11/9 kraken token with first strike as he declares the block I cast Coat with Venom, essentially giving it death touch. My question is does the first strike prevent the legal damage to be dealt to his kraken or did it die? And as the God is indestructible will it be able to survive after the first strike combat phase to deal the legal damage to his kraken?

Link all cards in your question.
Erebos, God of the Dead
Coat with Venom
The Kraken token will deal 11 damage to Erebos, God of the Dead during the first combat damage phase. Because Erebos, God of the Dead has indestructible, it won't be destroyed, and the game will create an additional combat damage step to handle regular combat damage. In this step, Erebos, God of the Dead will deal 6 deathtouch damage to the Kraken token, killing it.
