Daru Warchief with Heartless Summoning

If I play Daru Warchief with Heartless Summoning, Daru Warchief would get -1/-1 which would kill him. But soldiers get +1/+2 at the same time.

Am I right that those effects will resolve, before Daru Warchief dies?

Daru Warchief will be a 1/2. His ability never goes on the stack since it's not a triggered ability, so state-based actions will not kill him.
