Damage prevention and trample
Asked by hyena69 8 years ago
Lets say I attack with a 20/20 trample monster, my opponent blocks with a 1/1, but somehow manages to use Alms (for istance) and put a "prevent the next 20 damage, dealt to this creature this turn" shield on that critter. Would that damage prevention soak up all the trample damage, or could I merrily trample my opponent for 19 damage?
Thanks

You can send 19 damage at your opponent. When you're assigning damage from a creature with Trample, you only have to assign lethal damage to the blockers before you start assigning damage to the defending player. "Lethal damage" takes into account the creature's current toughness and any other damage it already has marked on it from earlier in the turn, but doesn't consider any other effects that would somehow change the amount of damage that would actually be dealt.
