Daghatar the Adamant

I am building an Abzan deck and was wondering if Daghatar the Adamant + Hardened Scales would work together to give Dag 5 of the +1/+1 instead of 4?

Yes. For effects that care about it, entering the battlefield with counters counts as "placing" the counters. Also (in case you didn't already know), moving a counter involves removing it from one card and placing it on another, so Daghatar the Adamant and Hardened Scales work very well together.

9/20/2014: "Placed on a creature you control" includes that creature entering the battlefield with +1/+1 counters on it. If a creature would enter the battlefield with a number of +1/+1 counters on it while you control Hardened Scales, it enters with that many counters plus one.
