Creatures are attacking me, and I flash Archangel of Tithes before damage is dealt. Are these creatures still attacking, and if so can their controllers still pay the mana to attack with their creatures?

I'm playing a casual game right now and we are having some serious confusion.
In general anything in magic that uses the word "attack" refers to the action of declaring attackers, and anything that says "attacking" refers to the state of being the creature exists in. The two pretty much never effect each other.

Those creatures are still attacking, because the paying
is as they are declared, so you would need to flash in Archangel before attackers are declared.
