'Cowards can't block Warriors' Question

Asked by Gaupen 9 years ago

Here's the scenario:

I declare Boldwyr Intimidator as an attacker. Storm Crow is declared as his only blocker. I turn Storm Crow into a Coward before the combat damage step. Cowards can't block Warriors so does Boldwyr Intimidator's damage make it to the opponent or not?

No, because Boldwyr only cares about cowards being declared as blockers to warriors. If a creature becomes a coward after its declared as a blocker, it doesn't leave combat.

You would have to make the Crow a coward before the declare blockers step. Once blocks have been declared, it's too late for that ability to do anything.

Once an attacking creature is blocked, it becomes and remains a blocked creature for the rest of combat. Even if the game state changes afterward such that the block would have been illegal if redeclared, nothing changes the fact that the block occurred while it was legal. Gaining flying, turning something into a Coward with Boldwyr Intimidator, or even giving something protection will not retroactively "undo" a block. Damage won't go through to the defending player, and the blocked creature and blocking creature will deal damage to one another per the usual rules.
