Asked by LordofInfect 12 years ago

That is how this happened in a casual game A Gyre Sage was on the field I played and resolved Corpsejack MenaceDoes Gyre Sage get 1 or 2 1/1 counters I guess what I'm asking is if corpekack's effect resolves when he come into play or after?

I thought It was the other way

Evolve reads: when a creature comes into play

So if a creature evolves then a counter is put onNow corpsejack has resolved and he triggers........OH

Ok I understand now Ty

No wait The creature has to resolve to trigger the evolve

So if he's evolved then gyre sage should get 2

It gets 2. Corpsejack Menace is on the battlefield when the Evolve trigger resolves, so his ability exists to double the number of counters.

Rhadamanthus is correct. Chronology:

Corpsejack Menace enters the battlefield.

A triggered ability from Gyre Sage, evolve, is put on the stack.

Evolve resolves. Corpsejack Menace is already on the battlefield, so its replacement ability applies and puts TWO counters instead of one on Gyre Sage.

Corpsejack Menace must be on the battlefield already for Evolve to trigger. Gyre Sage's ability goes on the stack, and reads "put a +1/+1 counter on this creature." Since Corpsejack Menace is on the battlefield, when it resolves, a replacement is applied, meaning not one but two +1/+1 counters are placed on Gyre Sage.
