Converge and possible mana colors

Asked by jstack14 9 years ago

I have a question on what type of colored mana can be produced to cast a converge spell. If you have a swamp, forest, mountain, island, and plains in play and you control a Lifespring druid (or any other source that can produce mana of any color), can you have it produce another color mana, say purple mana? This way you could cast a card like skyrider Elf for 6 instead of 5. I have looked through the threads and read the rulings of converge cards and the mana producers but neither seem to answer that question. It seems like this is possible because the text on the cards say add any color of mana, and for each color of mana spent. Thanks for the help, and please support any answer with something beyond just opinion.

Link all cards in your question.

There are five colors in Magic: white, blue, black, red, and green. An effect that tells you to choose a color is telling you to choose one of these five options. Purple is not an option.

105.1. There are five colors in the Magic game: white, blue, black, red, and green.

105.4. If a player is asked to choose a color, he or she must choose one of the five colors. "Multicolored" is not a color. Neither is "colorless."
