Commander Color Rules Question
Asked by DarkInvoker 3 years ago
I've been playing commander with friends for a while now, so I'm aware you need to match the colors on the mana cost or the ability symbols on the card to your commander.
Here's my question though. I want to build a deck around a commander with Black, Red, and Green. I'm considering adding Jerren, Corrupted Bishop to the deck. He's a Black card with a colorless ability.
This is where I'm unsure if I'm allowed to add him though. His ability lets me create a White creature token. White isn't in my commander's color identity, but its not the card's ability cost and the word white is spelled out rather than showing the mana symbols.
Not sure if this qualifies the card as a White card therefore unable to add the card to my deck or if this is an exception to the rule. Everywhere I've read it sounds like it has to be a mana symbol and either the casting cost or the cost to activate an ability, so this might be a loophole.

As long as a card doesn't have the actual mana symbol in its mana cost, color indicator, or rules text, it can be used. Because Jerren, Corrupted Bishop Flip does not use the symbol in its rules text, it can be included in a commander deck.
