CMC of certain cards

Asked by vila_a23 13 years ago

what would the converted mana cost be of a card like Surgical ExtractionMTG Card: Surgical Extraction be where there is an option to pay one black mana or no mana at all but take a hit to your life?

The CMC is still 1. The method you use to pay for the spell doesn't change this.

202.3. The converted mana cost of an object is a number equal to the total amount of mana in its mana cost, regardless of color.Example: A mana cost of 3UU translates to a converted mana cost of 5.

202.3a The converted mana cost of an object with no mana cost is 0.

202.3d Each Phyrexian mana symbol in a cards mana cost contributes 1 to its converted mana cost.

so basically its 1

it doesnt matter if its phyrexian mana or not, the cmc is still 1. phyrexian mana acts like normal mana when counting CMC
