Cipher with Shroud

Asked by aarontoomey 11 years ago

I was wondering if I had a Contagious Nim on the field and I cast Undercity Plague and then Cipher it onto Contagious Nim then Equip Whispersilk Cloak to Contagious Nim with the Cipher? Would the Undercity Plague still cast if I dealt damage with the Nim?

Cipher becomes a triggered ability of the card. Shroud does not matter for casting the ciphered card.

Shroud prevents spells and abilities from targeting the creature. Cipher is a triggered ability that triggers when the creature deals combat damage to a player. These two things don't interact at all. Yes, you would get to cast Undercity Plague when the Nim connects.

Cipher also doesn't target when it exiles itself on a creature. You could equip Whispersilk Cloak onto Contagious Nim first, just in case. The word "target" doesn't appear in the reminder text for Cipher, so it's not impeded by shroud at all.
