Cathar's Crusade and tokens

Asked by veritas723 9 years ago

Hello,

with a Cathars' Crusade on the battlefield, say you cast a card that generates tokens

in the specific case that just happened. player cast Deploy to the Front where X happened to be 32. so she'd get 32 tokens.

Would Cathars' Crusade trigger just once, ...each token getting just one counter, or trigger in succession as each token came into being. first one get 32 counters, second one getting 31, and so on and so forth down the line?

how does the triggering of the enchantment react to creatures being created simultaneously.

In the case of Deploy to the Front, all of the creatures entered the battlefield at one time, when Deploy resolved. Each one separately triggers Cathars' Crusade, putting an instance of the Crusade's triggered ability on the stack. The triggers simply build up in the stack, waiting for Deploy to finish resolving, waiting their turn patiently, if that helps you visualize it.

Cathars' Crusade will have X triggers on the stack, following Deploy's resolution. Next, assuming no responses, each trigger will resolve one at a time, and each will put a +1/+1 counter on each creature the controller has, including all of the tokens Deploy put into play. So in the example, all of the tokens would get 32 counters, as would any other creatures that player has.

Nitpick: The triggers will all be created simultaneously when the creature tokens enter the battlefield, but they will not be placed onto the stack until after Deploy to the Front is completely finished resolving.

The end result is the same, though, because the ability only checks which creatures you control as it resolves. Not that it would matter anyway; the tokens enter simultaneously.
