Cascadeing a Maelstorm Nexus

Asked by Sudain 12 years ago

If I cast an malestorm wanderer into a maelstorm nexus, will I have 1 more cascade at 8 CMC or 2?

I think 2 as when cascadeing if a creature cascades into an enchantment I can't enchant the creature as that spell hasn't resolved yet; just the initial cascade.

If I cascade into the nexus, then the first spell hasn't resolved, and so after the first cascade has finished I will have a second cascade from the wanderer, and then play the wander creatuer. That's when the nexus would add a cascade onto the stack, resulting in 3 cascades for that creature.

Maelstrom Wanderer

Maelstrom Nexus

Maelstrom Nexus only triggers for the first spell you cast each turn. Assuming Maelstrom Wanderer is the first spell you cast on your turn, then Maelstrom Nexus will do nothing when it comes out.

That's what I'm saying, I think when the wander cascades into the nexus the wander is not considered 'cast' and on the field at that time.

A card is "cast" as soon as you tap the mana and announce that you're casting it. That's when a card is cast.

A card doesn't have to resolve for it to be cast.

You cast the Maelstrom Wanderer since you triggered its cascade ability. Therefore, you already cast your first spell for the turn. If Maelstrom Nexus enters the battlefield, even if you cast a spell afterward, it won't trigger for the rest of the turn because the event of your first cast that turn has already happened.

Also, as zandl said, casting and resolving are different things.
