Card Draw and Dredge
Asked by CLGRazor 11 years ago
When I use an activated ability like the one of Fa'adiyah Seer while I have a card with Dredge in my graveyard, does the ability of Fa'adiyah Seer (mainly the part that says "If it isn't a land card, discard it") activate? Or do I just dredge like I normally would at the beginning of my draw step without revealing the top card? Sorry if it didn't make much sense

Dredge says specifically that "If you would draw a card, instead you may put X cards from the top of your library into your graveyard. If you do, return (insert card here) from your graveyard to your hand.
You can dredge off of any drawn card.

The dredge replaces the draw effect. So you would dredge your card. Then you have to treat it like any normal card drawn off Fa'adiyah Seer . The drege replaces the draw only, and not the rest of the ability.

So you're saying that you would end up discarding the card you dredged?

OK kinda confused now. Dredging your card..In orderI tap Fa'adiyah Seer . I Dredge 5 to get Stinkweed Imp from graveyard to hand, then what do I do for the "If it isn't a land card, discard it" effect? I technically did reveal it when I put top card into graveyard with Dredge..

My bad. Did some research and found that I was wrong. This is how it works:
As cakrause86 said, any draw effect can be replaced with a dredge, as long as you have enough cards in your library.
When you use Fa'adiyah Seer and dredge with it, the dredge replaces your draw from the Seer. So, ultimately, you didn't technically draw a card, you put one into your hand from your graveyard. Fa'adiyah Seer tells you to reveal and possibly discard the card you drew. But you didn't draw anything, so you get to keep your dredge card.

To be honest, I thought that the seers ability was bypassed because dredge replaces the draw part.

I should have specified "replacement effect" though.

You dredge like normal. The dregding replaces that draw from the seer.
