Can you play a spell with convoke with a creature with summoning sickness?

Say you were to play Chief Engineer on turn 2. So you would have 2 tapped lands and one creature with summoning sickness. My question is would you be able to cast a one-drop artifact using Chief Engineer on the same turn you played him? Even though he has summoning sickness?

Awesome Thanks! I was pretty sure, but I've only been playing Magic for about a year so I still make mistakes.

@JWiley129 Hold up, does summoning sickness stop all activated abilities like Zof Shade ect? I thought it was just tap abilities, like Sigiled Starfish ?

keyno, you're right. Summoning sickness only restricts the activation of abilities with the Tap (or Untap) symbol in the cost.

Ah, interesting about the untap, if that ever comes up i'll be sure to parade that knowledge =P

Short answer: yes
Long answer: summoning sickness stops activated abilities and attacking for a creature, convoke isn't an activated ability of Chief Engineer so you can tap him for convoke the turn he comes into play.
