can spawing pool use its own mana to regenerate?

It's my opponents turn and he attacks with a normal creature. take Child of Night for example.

I decide to make Spawning Pool a creature and pay 2 mana to do so. Next I declare that Child of Night will be blocked by Spawning Pool .

Can I now tap the Spawning Pool itself to regenerate it? Seeing it is still a land with that ability.

Yes that is exactly how that works. Once it is declared as a blocking creature, it stays blocking the attacker even if it becomes tapped, and you can activate its mana ability to pay the regeneration ability's activation cost.

Yes, this sort of thing used to be a common defensive trick with Birds of Paradise + Regeneration . Spawning Pool of course is far more straightforward about it.
