Can Myr Battlesphere tap itself if it has vigilance?
Asked by thundernick 12 years ago
Myr Battlesphere 's ability lets it tap Myr creatures to increase its power and deal direct damage to your opponent. If the battlesphere has vigilance, say from card:Akroma's Memorial, can I tap it for its own ability after i've declared attacks?
In the same example, may I attack with the 4 tokens it made, and tap them as well? (They would have haste from card:Akroma's Memorial.)
This should (hopefully) result in a 9/7 and 4 1/1's attacking, with 5 damage straight to the head. I'm fairly certain it works this way but I wanted to be sure before I played the related deck, Myr Trifles :) Thanks in advance!

to go further, if the creatures did not have vigilance, could i use Myr Galvanizer to untap the declared-as-attacking creatures while Myr Battlesphere 's trigger is on the stack?

Yes, but only once, ie. no infinite loop with two Galvanizers on board.
You can respond to it by activating Myr Galvanizer 's untap ability and then tapping all untapped Myrs available. After its untap ability has resolved, then you decide the value for X, which, as stated in the Gatherer: "You choose the value for X as the last ability resolves. You can't choose a value for X that's greater than the number of untapped Myr you control." and carry out the relevant actions.

Yes.
506.4b Tapping or untapping a creature thats already been declared as an attacker or blocker doesnt remove it from combat and doesnt prevent its combat damage.
So basically Myr Battlesphere gets declared as an attacker, along with any other creatures you have. When that's done, its trigger is put on the stack and you can choose to tap any number of untapped Myrs for it.
