Can Ivory Tower take life away?

If you have less than four cards in your hand, would you lose life because of Ivory Tower ?

"If you have four or fewer cards in your hand when Ivory Tower's ability resolves, the ability has no effect."

abilities that would cause you to gain life can only cause your life total to increase
