Can I use Trading Posts in my izzet edh?
Asked by sholeton 11 years ago
I'm a little uncertain if I can because of the color identity rule, but not entirely sure if the sac, add a white creature would break the color identity.
Thank you very much I appreciate the quick response! I assumed that it would be like but just wanted concrete answers.

The only time color words matter for color identity is when they're in a Characteristic-Defining Ability (CDA) that sets a card's color. However, there aren't very many of those particular CDAs left in the game (I can't think of any) since the introduction of the color indicator symbol. Wherever possible, color-setting CDAs in a card's rules text have simply been replaced with a color indicator in the type line.
If you see a color word in the text of a recently printed card, it probably doesn't have any significance in terms of color identity. If it's an older card (from before Innistrad Block), check the Oracle text on Gatherer to make sure.

Color words don't affect color identity. Casting cost, mana symbols in the card text and color indicators affect color identity. Trading Post is fine.
