Can I use Higure, the Still Winds ninjutsu if it's my EDH commander?

Asked by Triforce-Finder 11 years ago

I think it's possible to activate an ability of a commander that puts it on the field while it's in the command zone, but I'm not sure. And I'd like to know if the cost for that ability would increase if it's not an alternate casting cost like with evoke.

Ninjutstu specifically says to put the card into play from your hand, so no you cannot use it. Unless the card gets put into your hand somehow. He can be your general, but you cannot nijutsu him from the command zone.

Aw, dang, I totally missed that. How is it with other effects that don't specifically say "from the hand"? Because Higure, the Still Wind was ment to be a (badly picked) example. Does their cost increase?

Are you trying to ask a question about Derevi, Empyrial Tactician?

The "commander tax" affects the total casting cost of a commander spell cast from the command zone, and it's based on how many times that commander has already been cast from the command zone this game. Activating an ability isn't casting a spell, so it doesn't interact at all with the "commander tax".

An ability that puts a card from one zone into another zone will always specify the starting zone that the ability works from (unless that zone is the battlefield, in which case it will only specify if absolutely necessary).

Thank you very much, both of you.
