can i play exiled lands with Nightveil Specter?

Asked by Kcin 12 years ago

just a quick question.... if i have a Nightveil Specter that lands a hit on my opponent... and he exiles a land.... can i play that land? the effect of the specter only speaks of "Card".....

i ask this because it wouldnt make sense to have the final ability if you only have U/B mana in you mana base and your opponent is running W/R or something that isnt U/B...........

I have looked into Gatherer and found nothing on this.... PLEASE HELP! #lost #confused

Yes you can, however it still counts as your land for the turn, and can still only be played during your own turn.

All cards in Magic the Gathering are referred to as cards. More specifically, spells are all cards but lands, and lands are lands. The answer is yes, because any effect saying "card(s)" is not specific of what card(s).

The current in-game meaning of the word "play" means

  • Put onto the battlefield using the special action if it's a land; or
  • Cast it if it's a spell

Nightveil Specter does let you play lands. However, it doesn't permit you to play additional lands. Playing your opponent's lands off of the Specter still counts as your land drop for the turn.
