Can I pay an overload cost on a spell with flashback?

Asked by AncientDuality 12 years ago

For instance, I want to cast Snapcaster Mage targeting Cyclonic Rift. Instead of flashing it back for 1U, can I overload it for its overload cost?

yes you can dude, it's like as if cast it normally but instead of paying the regular mana cost, pay the overload cost,so you can also flashback for the overload

No. Flashback on a spell like Travel Preparations is an alternative cost to paying for the spell normally. Overload is also an alternative cost. When casting a spell, you can only pay one alternative cost, so you can't pay the flashback cost and also the overload cost. Another eason is that when you cast a spell for its flashback cost, if you paid the overload cost, you have not paid the flashback cost.

Snapcaster Mage allows you to flash back the spell for it's regular mana cost.

Overload is an alternate mana cost, which snapcaster mage doesn't enable. Instead you pay a different alternate cost(in this case it's flashback cost which happens to be equal to it's regular cost) to cast the spell

so no, you can't overload a spell flashed back with snapcaster
