Can I cast silence during my opponent's turn but before his/her untap phase?

It is all in the question. I am wondering if I can cast a Silence during my opponent's turn (its an instant), so when it is declared that it is my opponent's turn but before they untap can their mana.

You should be able to play that card before your opponent's untap phase, since you can cast instants at any time.

502.3. No player receives priority during the untap step, so no spells can be cast or resolve and no abilities can be activated or resolve. Any ability that triggers during this step will be held until the next time a player would receive priority, which is usually during the upkeep step. (See rule 503, Upkeep Step.)

503. Upkeep Step

503.1. First, any abilities that trigger at the beginning of the upkeep step and any abilities that triggered during the turns untap step go on the stack. (See rule 603, Handling Triggered Abilities.)

503.2. Second, the active player gets priority. Players may cast spells and activate abilities.

The short version of all that is: The earliest you may cast a spell on your opponent's turn is at the end of their Upkeep Step. This is after they Untap but before they Draw. Note that your opponent still gets priority before you and will get to cast instants before you if they choose to.

Kirtanian is right. The earliest any player can get priority is the Upkeep step.

@ stopmotionmanager You can't cast instant at any time. Any spells can only be cast when you have priority and since nobody have priority during the Untap Step, Declare Attackers step, Declare Blockers step and Cleanup step, no spells can be cast during these steps.

@YouGotFranked: Players get priority during Declare Attackers and Declare Blockers. You might be thinking of the fact that the action of declaring attackers or declaring blockers is a turn-based action that's completed right before anyone gets priority.

Though players usually don't get priority during Cleanup, it's possible. The most common reason for getting priority during Cleanup is that an event causes an ability to trigger. If anything happens during a Cleanup step, the game will start another one, and will keep doing that until it finally gets one where nothing happens.

@ Rhadamanthus Yeah you're right, that's what i meant. Poor choice of words on my part, sorry. I meant nobody has priority when someone is declaring his attackers or defenders.
