Can I attack multiple players in EDH?
Asked by Redace878 8 years ago
I know that some people play with different rules but what are the official Commander/EDH rules for this scenario:
I have a 2 creatures, let's say a goblin and a knight. I also have 2 opponents. Can I attack both opponents in the same combat phase, one with the goblin and the other with the knight?
In a standard multiplayer free-for-all, which is how commander is typically played, you may attack multiple players during the same combat. You choose all your attacking creatures at the same time, and declare which player or planeswalker each is attacking. If an ability refers to a defending player it refers only to the player that the creature with the ability is attacking, or the controller of the planeswalker it is attacking.
Some people may play with a variant where you may only attack 1 player per turn or combat, or where you may only attack a specific player (such as whoever is to your left). There are also non free-for-all versions that would change who you can attack drastically.

Those are just the regular multiplayer rules. Commander doesn't have by rule any special restrictions on attacking.
Keep in mind there are different kinds of multiplayer, though, such as star or emperor.
