Bolster and Heroic

If I cast Cached Defenses and I choose Phalanx Leader, does his heroic ability trigger, or does it not because I didn't "target" him? Also, would enchanting the leader work?
Enchantment Auras DO work to trigger Heroic, if that's what you mean. You're casting the Aura on the target creature.

No, Bolster doesn't target (abilities and spells only target if they say the word "target" in them), so that won't work. Auras are kind of weird in that they don't say the word "target" anywhere on the card, but is stated in the comp rules, so it will trigger Heroic.
-303.4a An Aura spell requires a target, which is defined by its enchant ability.

It wouldn't "target" Phalanx Leader, so it wouldn't trigger Heroic.
