Bogardan Hellkite ability

Say I have 2 creatures in play, a 3/3 and a 2/2. My opponent casts Bogardan Hellkite then chooses targets for its ability. He chooses the 2 creatures I have in play to eliminate them. I then cast Sheltering Word on my 3/3 creature making it an invalid target. Now my question here is, will the Sheltering Word cancel out the 3 damage that would've been dealt to my 3/3 creature or will my opponent be able to simply transfer that damage directly to me instead?

Damage division occurs when the ability is put onto the stack and after targets are chosen. You don't get to reassign damage division.
