Bane of Progress vs. Grave Peril
Asked by Nobili3 9 years ago
So grave peril is on the field, I cast Bane of Progess destroying Grave Peril. Then he responds by sacing grave peril and destoying my Bane. Is this legal? Or does my Bane remove it from the field b4 he can respond?

Please use double square brackets to link cards. It saves everyone a lot of time, because you don't have to explain everything and the readers don't have to go look it all up.
Your opponent can't "respond" by sacrificing Grave Peril because it has a triggered ability, not an activated one, but it triggers at the same time Bane of Progress does: when Bane of Progress enters the battlefield. When multiple triggered abilities are trying to go onto the stack at the same time, you put all the active player's triggers onto the stack first (in the order of their choice), and then you put the non-active players onto the stack on top of them (in the order of their choice).
Since it's most likely your turn in your example (you cast Bane of Progress) this means the Grave Peril trigger will be on the stack on top of Bane's trigger, and the Grave Peril trigger will end up resolving first. Your Bane of Progress gets destroyed, and then when Bane's trigger finally does resolve all other enchantments and artifacts will get destroyed (killing Bane doesn't go back and stop its ability from triggering).

Link all cards in your question.
Bane of Progress
Grave Peril
Both abilities trigger when Bane of Progress enters the battlefield. They'll be put onto the stack in APNAP (active player, next active player) order (which is the same as turn order). If Bane of Progress enters the battlefield during your turn (which is the likeliest case because it's a creature), then you'll put its ability onto the stack first, and then your opponent will put Grave Peril's ability onto the stack.
At this point, both abilities exist independently of their sources. Grave Peril's ability will destroy Bane of Progress, and Bane of Progress's ability will destroy all artifacts and enchantments.
