Aurification and Protection from White

Asked by fabiode 12 years ago

Hey guys, I was thinking after a game with my friend that had Aurification on the battlefield. Then I attacked with a creature that had Pentarch Ward attached to it, and the named color was white. My creature should be affected by the Aurification or not?

Thanks.

Protection only stops damage, enchanting, equipping, blocking, and targeting by a source that is protected against. Since Aurification doesn't do any of those things, protection won't prevent your creature from having a gold counter placed on it or being affected by Aurification 's other effects.

Thanks. Got another question but with hexproof.

Hexproof the creature can't be targeted by spells or abilities of your enemy. In this case should happen the same way as with protection, right?

And another, hexproof just works spells and abilities that have target in the description? the creature with hexproof can be enchanted? with something like Defang ?

I am pretty sure you can enchant a hexproof or shroud creature.

Correct. Neither hexproof nor protection will save a creature from Aurification .

Enchantments are a little tricky. Aura spells are always targeted because an Aura has a target when it is cast. This is not stated in the text box, but it is implicit in the definition of an Aura. If an Aura enters the battlefield via a noncast method (such as being blinked or returned to play from another zone), then it is not targeted and can be attached to any object it can legally enchant.

@cartwheelnurd: Note that you can't cast an Aura on a creature with shroud or a creature your opponent controls with hexproof because casting an Aura requires a target.
