Augur spree cast during combat?

If I have an unleashed Hellhole Flailer attacking... and I cast Auger Spree targeting it, will my flailer deal 8 damage if unblocked then die, or will it die before it deals any damage?

It will die before it deals any damage. State-based actions will be checked the next time a player receives priority, and Hellhole Flailer will be put into its owner's graveyard before the game even progresses to the combat damage step.

Note also that because Hellhole Flailer dies as a state-based action, you can't resolve Auger Spree and then activate Hellhole Flailer 's ability. It will already be gone.

Got it! so I would have to find a way to buff the HF toughness above 4. Thanks for the quick and explanatory answer!
