Artisan of Kozilek ability

Asked by runelord 13 years ago

my question is about the return creature to the battlefield ability. At what point have I "cast" the creature. If I pay full cost and he gets countered do I still get to bring a creature back from the graveyard. I think I should cause it doesn't say enters the battlefield. As long as I cast him it shouldn't matter if it's countered. Seems how I have to cast it before it can be countered.

Yes, that is exactly how it works. Even if it gets countered, your Artisan of KozilekMTG Card: Artisan of Kozilek is still considered cast, so he triggered ability to resurrect a creature will still go on the stack to await resolution.

Artisan of KozilekMTG Card: Artisan of Kozilek has a triggered ability that functions from the stack. When you cast Artisan of Kozilek (which means you've put it onto the stack and paid its costs), its ability triggers and goes onto the stack. When the ability resolves, you return a target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. This ability is not dependent on Artisan of Kozilek being on the stack, so even if Artisan of Kozilek is countered the ability will still resolve. This is because abilities are independent of their sources, and removing the source will not do anything about the ability.

Yes, just because a spell doesn't resolve doesn't mean it wasn't cast. Casting Artisan of KozilekMTG Card: Artisan of Kozilek will allow you to return a creature in your graveyard to the battlefield regardless of whether or not it was countered.
