Aristocrat/Plumb The Forbidden Stack Ordering

Asked by asparling_tappedout 2 years ago

The board is as follows:

I have 2 life. I have a Blood Artist and two creature tokens in play.

I cast Plumb the Forbidden and sac both my creature tokens to it's additional cost.

How is the stack ordered in this scenario? Does Blood Artist resolve first keeping me alive? Or do the copies resolve first killing me?

As soon as Plumb resolves, state-based actions are checked (because that is the time at which a player would gain priority), and because you are at 0 life, you will lose the game and your Artist triggers will be exiled.

So the copies do resolve before the Blood Artist triggers?

You can survive this, because you get to choose the order that the Blood Artist triggers and Plumb the Forbidden copies go onto the stack.

When you sacrifice creatures as an additional cost to cast Plumb the Forbidden, the reflexive trigger in its first ability ("When you do...") and Blood Artist's ability trigger at the same time. Since the triggers are trying to go onto the stack at the same time and you control them both, you can put them onto the stack in the order of your choice. In your example, you would want to arrange the Blood Artist triggers on top and the copy-making trigger from Plumb on the bottom.

Ah. I was careless and didn't read the card very well. Thanks for the cleaning-up Rhadamanthus

THAT is the exact answer I wanted to here :) Thank you both. I wasn't certain if both triggers occurred simultaneously or not seeing as the trigger which created the copies occurred in line with the cost text.

Been playing this game for years and I'm still learning stuff.
