Arcum Dagsson

Asked by GoblinRiot 13 years ago

If I have an Arcum Dagsson , and I tap it to sac on of my artifact creatures, what happens if in response someone kills my creature or gains control of it? Does the effect continue with me searching my library for a non-creature artifact?I feel like it shouldn't, but I don't understand why.

The ability has a single target. When a spell or ability tries to resolve and all its targets are missing, the spell or ability is cancelled and none of its effects happen.

It fizzles.

The placement of "sacrifice..." in relation to the " : " dictates if that sacrifice action goes on the stack.

If the ability reads:

"Tap, Target player sacrifices an artifact: That player may search his or her library for a noncreature artifact card, put it into play, then shuffle his or her library."

The sacrifice is part of the cost of the ability. This does not go on the stack, and cannot be responded to. (Similar to tapping land for mana)

If it reads:

"Tap: Target artifact creature's controller sacrifices it. That player may search his or her library for a noncreature artifact card, put it into play, then shuffle his or her library."

The sacrifice is an aspect of the ability, and goes onto the stack. If it is on the stack, it can be responded to by anyone who has priority.
